Join Jamie Osborn on Monday, January 8 at 6:30 in the Lawson McGhee Library meeting room for a discussion of Before the Fall by Noah Hawley.
Sixteen minutes into a short private flight from Martha's Vineyard to New York, a plane crashes, killing nine of the eleven people on board. The two survivors are Scott Burroughs, an artist whose presence on the plane is happenstance, and JJ Bateman, the four-year-old heir to a media empire. Scott, a recovering alcoholic who recently exchanged drinking for swimming, rescues JJ by getting them both to shore. As the investigation into the crash builds, Scott's life is turned upside down by media scrutiny and survivor's guilt. The suspense grows as the story alternates between the aftermath of the crash and the backstories of the people on board the plane—with no shortage of plot twists.
