Lawrence Yep

Laurence Yep

Yep was born in California. His family ties to the Appalachian region are through his mother, who was born in West Virginia and raised in Ohio, where her family had a laundry. Yep attended Marquette University and graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he earned a Ph.D in English.  He is a prolific author.

: “...my father never spoke about China. So it never seemed real to me. I always heard about West Virginia, and so I thought of that as my real homeland. I did go back there twice, because I wrote a book about my mother's life there. The book won a prize in West Virginia. When I went to accept it, they loaded me down with presents for my mother.”
