After a very successful turnout and deep discussion last month, Teen Central librarians are really looking forward to our next We Read Y.A.! meeting Wednesday, March 28 at 5:00 at West High School. Join this group of literary, and civic-minded teens for a discussion of books that focus on the pressures (social, familial and academic) faced by teens and the power to confront adversity on their own terms.
This month We Read Y.A.! will discuss Exit, Pursued by a Bear by E.K. Johnston. Taking its name from the infamous stage direction given in Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale, this book adapts characters and story elements for contemporary teens. In turns gritty and hopeful, this book takes readers on an emotionally and legally intense journey. Reserve your copy with the link below.
Club members—including teens, teachers, librarians and other interested readers—will continue to use literature to dig deep into social issues and examine different methods for taking action. At the end of the semester the teens will develop and implement a service project inspired by the novels. Our discussions are led by Susan Groenke, award-winning professor and director of the Center for Children's and Young Adult Literature, West High School English teacher Stacey Reece, and Teen Central librarians. Snacks will be provided.
We look forward to reading with you!
