Portrait // by Kaylee H. (January 2016)

I'll paint my mood in shades of blue
Paint myself next to you
Brush strokes so light and fine
Go back to when you were mine
I'll draw two bands enlocked
Sculpted from the clay block
Your finger trailing up my arm
Locked together safe from harm
I'll trace the quirk of your lips
Where my own easily fit
Capture the sun in your eyes
So light I won't have to try
I'll keep you safe in my head
Long after we're both dead
Move on with my life
Cut the ties with your knife
I'll love the portrait I have made
Even when the colors fade
And no matter what I do
I will never forget you
