We'll have a librarian-led discussion of Scribe by Alyson Carol Hagy on Monday, September 9 at 6:30 in the Lawson McGhee Library meeting room.
Scribe is set sometime in the future after the United States has been crippled by both a civil war and contagious fevers. Trade has reverted to the barter system and the unnamed main character uses her writing skills to survive on her family’s farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She has come to terms with her neighbors while a migrant group temporarily camps out on her land. An odd request for a letter from someone whose intentions are not clear stirs up memories and sets in motion a harrowing series of events. Alyson Hagy’s novel is slender in length but its powerful storytelling will stay with you long after you’ve finished.
