Burlington Branch Library dedication

On Wednesday, June 29, family and friends gathered at the East Knoxville - Burlington Branch Library to dedicate the building to Donald Ancker Sherrod, Specialist 4th Class. Sherrod was born on June 2, 1943, to FJ and Mariana Sherrod. A 1962 graduate of East High School, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1963, serving a tour of duty in Korea before he volunteered for Vietnam in 1966, where he was killed in action. His courageous action under fire significantly contributed to the success of his company's defense. He was the first person from Burlington to die in the Vietnam War.
