Gemma is a typical teen; perfect life, perfect boyfriend, and a perfect summer planned. That changes when her boyfriend breaks up with her, her mom spends the summer in Scotland, and she is mistaken for her best friend by her longtime enemy, Hallie. Ever since her parents split, Gemma had hoped to get them back together, but that all changed when she was eleven and her dad fell in love with Hallie's mom. Gemma spent her whole summer trying to break the two up, but she also broke Hallie's heart in the process. Now Gemma is afraid Hallie will find out who she really is, but a series of mishaps are making her increasingly aware that Hallie might already know. Fourth of July fireworks aren't the only sparks that fly in this first book of a promising trilogy.
I found this book to be refreshing and amazingly crafted. Katie Finn is a writer who develops her characters and still leaves plenty of content for two more heart-pounding books to come. I look forward to reading more of her work!
