Persephone // by Anna (April 2019)

Poetry

They said I was captured

But really, I was free.

They said I was stolen,

But they were wrong about me.

Maybe I wanted to go,

Maybe he was always more than a beast.

They mourned for the winter,

But without it,

How could they know spring?

They searched for me with torches,

But what if I didn't want to be found?

Did they stop to consider I loved him?

I wish they had.

Maybe then he would be free of the chains

Surrounding him.

But the story is told by the victor.

So I was trapped in a land of darkness,

Where hatred reigns supreme.

I was stolen away from the world that loved me.

I wish I was free as he.
